Growing up, my parents had us play lots of sports. We all (meaning my brother, sister and I) were all given a natural athletic ability that I am sure comes from my Dad, and we all excelled in sports. At one time in my life I played a sport every season: soccer, basketball, softball, and volleyball. I also played competitively in soccer and basketball. Sports was something that my parents felt were essential in a child's growth and development. It's always good to have a healthy competitive spirit, it taught you discipline, teamwork, thinking more "team minded" rather than about yourself, loyalty, and a strong sense of self and your capabilities. As long as I was in sports, I stayed out of trouble, and it also helped keeping me stay in shape and being healthy. This is something that I will be very proactive about passing down to Austin. I feel a lot of my independence comes from my days as a sports player, and I want to pass that along to my son. Austin will learn all the lessons I did when I was young, sports will mold him as a person, and I think he will be a better person because of it.
This year I found a Summer program called Itty Bitty TBall and I jumped at the chance. This program helps children from three to six to learn the basics of Baseball. Such as learning the bases, how to catch a ball, and how to hit off a tee. Austin was a little lost this first time, but I know he will get the hang of it. He actually already has great ability in hand and eye cordination, and can throw the ball like no other three year old I have seen...I just gotta get him to stand instead of wanting me to pick him up at practice. Here are a few pictures of his first day. Watch out Giants!!!
And he catches the ball!
